Report Bullying or a Concern

Students, families, staff, visitors, and community members can report bullying, cyberbullying, harassment, hazing, retaliation, or another school concern. You do not need to know which category fits or have all the answers. Tell us what you know so we can help. You may also speak with any staff member and ask for help making a report.

If someone is in immediate danger, call 911. During the school day, tell a staff member immediately. You can email a concern at any time, but email is not monitored continuously and is not an emergency service. Staff must still follow required child-protection reporting procedures; reporting to the school does not replace them.

Report directly to Jennifer O’Malley, Executive Director, at jomalley@mylafayetteschool.org or call 434-589-2370. Reports may be oral or written. Share what happened, when and where it happened, who may need support, and how we can contact you if you want follow-up. Email identifies the sender. Please request a secure way to share sensitive records; do not attach medical records, therapy notes, passwords, or unrelated private documents.

Lafayette prohibits retaliation against anyone who raises a concern or participates in an investigation. Reports are handled with care and shared only with people who need the information to respond or as required by law. Complete secrecy cannot be promised when safety, investigation, or legal reporting duties require disclosure. Staff protect other students’ confidential information when communicating with families.

Staff address immediate safety needs and review concerns promptly and impartially. When a bullying incident is confirmed, the school notifies the affected students’ parents within 24 hours, while protecting confidential information. For formal complaints, the Executive Director acknowledges receipt within five business days and provides a written response within 30 calendar days, or a written explanation and revised response date.
